Graphic Design is Such a Large Part of our Lives

Without even realising the fact we are actually surrounded by graphic design on a daily basis. Graphic design Singapore, and everywhere else in the world, is such a huge part of our lives and we are not even aware of how much we are affected by graphic designs Singapore, or wherever.

Graphic design is the art of communication, stylizing, and problem-solving through the use of type, space, and image. The field is considered a subset of visual communication and communication design, but sometimes the term is used interchangeably with these due to overlapping skills involved. Graphic designers use various methods to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages.

From humble things like gum wrappers to huge things like billboards to the T-shirt you’re wearing, a graphic design company, at least the efforts of a graphic design firm, informs, persuades, organizes, stimulates, locates, identifies, attracts attention and provides pleasure. A graphic designer may use a combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated.

Job description

A graphic designer is responsible for creating design solutions that have a high visual impact. The role involves listening to clients and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Their designs are required for a huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, books, magazines, posters, computer games, product packaging, exhibitions and displays, corporate communications and corporate identity, e.g. giving organisations a visual 'brand'.

A graphic designer works to a brief agreed with the client, creative director or account manager. They develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the client's objectives. The work demands creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines. Whether they are self-employed, working freelance or employed within a business, graphic designers often have to be proactive in presenting or 'pitching' their ideas and designs to the agency director and/or prospective clients.

Graphic design relates heavily to corporate identity, the branding, and "persona" of a corporation. Branding originated in the late 1890s and not only did it emerge as corporate identity, but it also signified corporate quality. Many might recognize the process of "branding" a hot iron symbol or logo onto an animal's body to differentiate other cattle.

A graphic designs firm Singapore, or in fact a graphic design firm anywhere else for that matter, is usually a modern and dynamic place to work and tends to attract the younger end of the workforce. This is also due to the fact that long hours are needed and the work itself is such that it is perceived as a young person’s field. This does not mean to say that this is true but the general image of a graphic designer is of an aggressive man in his early thirties, in a suit, pitching ideas to clients.
